In an exclusive Madness Central interview with Dave, he had this to say on his collaboration with Madness on the Keep Moving album:

It was one of those nice accidents, that [Madness] happened to be recording in London at the same time as we were. And so, it was like, oh, we got this song, and somebody said, “Oh, it would sound great with those boys from the Beat on it, wouldn’t it? Would you like to come down?” And so we did. It didn’t take very long. I wish it’d took longer, as it was great fun.

Enjoy Dave Wakeling performing with Madness on the Keep Moving track “Victoria Gardens”:

Injured 15 years ago in a stunt bike accident, daredevil Eddie Kidd (who also worked as a stunt double in several James Bond films) is taking on the feat of walking the London Marathon which is taking place in a little over a week. This is an amazing on-taking considering Eddie was never thought to be able to walk again.

In support of Eddie, several celebrities will be walking a half mile of the London Marathon this year, including actor Ray Winstone, EastEnders actor John Altman, Madness singer Suggs and comedian Bobby Davro.

It is expected for Eddie to accomplish roughly one mile a day until the marathon is completed. Proceeds from his charity walk will benefit the Eddie Kidd Foundation which aims to support the rehabilitation of stunt performers who have been injured at work.

Suggs Disappearing London

http://movies.netflix.com/WiPlayer?movieid=70113237&trkid=2429428

Madness lead singer and presenter Graham Suggs McPherson searches out the people and places that give London its quirky appeal and charm, and discovers why they may not be around for much longer.

Suggs celebrates the endangered buildings and open spaces which give this capital its special charm and unique character.

From the humble Italian coffee house or traditional London pub to the open air swimming pool or exotic Turkish bath, these hidden gems are every bit as important to the character and appeal of the city as its major landmarks. These are the places where ordinary Londoners lived, worked and played, where they fell in love or earned their first pay cheque. But all too often they are taken for granted, until it is too late to save them from the threat of re-development or the wrecking ball. Suggs journey of discovery carries us back in time, to reveal the secrets of these special places. He discovers when and why they were built and investigates why they fell out of fashion. Along the way he uncovers some rare archive footage and meets some of the men and women for whom these places hold special memories. And he finds out how some owners are re-inventing their buildings to fend off the threat of extinction.

Madness lead singer and presenter Graham Suggs McPherson visits places and people who are part of the fabric of Londons bohemian and creative hub, Soho. Stephen Fry gets asked some quite interesting questions over a game of snooker at The Groucho Club. Molly Parkin and her daughter extol the virtues of the Colony Rooms the most important art school in London, and Suggs conducts probably the last TV interview with George Melly.

New centre that’s One Step Beyond
Published on Friday 1 April 2011 13:54

MADNESS frontman Suggs has officially opened a new day care centre for adults with learning disabilities and autism in Northampton.

The popstar cut the ribbon at The Cube in Roe Road, Abington, yesterday which has been built on the site of a former printing factory.

The new facility has a gym, computer room, dance studio and will be a place where adults with autism and complex needs can socialise and make new friends.

Owner Jelena Milic, who has also set up two similar facilities in Daventry, said the new centre was fulfilling a gap in adult disability services in Northampton.

She said: “I think it is great for the people of Northampton. It is giving people choices. We are trying to give them a chance to do things they’ve never done before and fill a gap in service.

“We have been very well supported by the Abington community who are behind what we are trying to do.”

Suggs said: “It is phenomenal in the current climate that this would happen at all and it is a fantastic space. It is a very heart warming tale.

“I think it is really extraordinary. I asked Jelena if she wants to manage my band because she obviously gets things done.”

The centre will be open from Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm but will also be open on one afternoon in the week for members of the local community to come in and have a cup of tea.

The centre will charge fees but it is hoped adults will pay by using part of their personal disability budgets.

Former Daventry MP Lord Tim Boswell said the centre was an example of “the big society”.

He said: “Even if it is a commercial operation there is also room for social enterprise. It is a tremendous facility.”

Prior to acceptance to The Cube all clients need to attend a pre-admission interview together with their designated parent, guardian or carer. To discuss admission call Northampton 603110.
